Mixed Dozen of : 8 Bottles x 2020 Cabernets + 4 Bottles x 2021 Chardonnay 750ml
Another strong vintage following on from 2017, 2018 and 2019. Dark, ripe fruits dominate the nose and palate - blackberry and mulberry, along with hallmark Lake's Folly cedar tones (derived from the fruit, not the oak). Soft, supple, generous style from another drought year. Lovely balanced oak rounds out, and complements, the wine. 95/100 points
White peach and light vanillin oak, with hints of oatmeal and tropical fruits on the nose. The palate is quite generous and textural from the barrel fermentation, and shows flavours of ripe white peach and subtle lemon curd. Soft acidity and great persistence of flavour; it will continue to improve over the coming decade and beyond. 95/100 points
Lake's Folly Cabernets is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Shiraz made from low-yielding, estate-grown, hand-picked fruit. The fruit is open-fermented producing softer, more subtle tannins, and then transferred to large format casks for six months for settling, and then into small French oak barriques (new and one- and two-year-old) for approximately one year before bottling.
Excellent long-term cellaring potential of up to 20 years, depending on the vintage.
Rated: Excellent – Langtons Classification of Australian Wine
Lake's Folly Chardonnay is made from low-yielding, estate-grown fruit which is barrel fermented and aged on yeast lees for eight months in French oak barriques (30–50% new). There is no secondary malolactic fermentation.
